Market gardens until the sixties

Balcatta was market gardens before the 1960s, and houses and industry spread from the 1970s. Many of the original families built their own homes on large blocks. Some of those blocks have since been split for villas, which is why so many homes are attached while apartments are almost nil.

The south is mostly owner-occupied, a third of it owned outright. Older hardware there is often worth a service before a replacement, and a whole-house rekey can put every door on one key.

The north is different. The Balcatta industrial area is a large employment area: shops, offices, wholesale, light industry and warehousing. For businesses there we do roller door locks, rekeys when staff leave, commercial door hardware, break-in repairs and after-hours lockouts. We don’t do alarms, CCTV or access control.

Common questions

Straight answers

Yes. Homes in the south and industrial units in the north, all done on site from the van.

Often a repair will do. If it’s worn, a service and re-pin can bring it back; if it has failed, we say so and give you the price for a new one.

Have the unit rekeyed. The existing cylinders are re-pinned on site, the old key stops working, and we cut fresh keys for whoever still needs one. Restricted key systems and master key systems aren’t something we supply.

No. Locks, doors, roller doors, gates and keys only. We will point you to someone for the rest.

Often. If the shed or gate lock takes a cylinder we can rekey, it can go on the same key as the house. If one can’t be matched, we tell you on site and give you the options before any work.
