Common faults we fix

Faults we see every week

  • A key that’s stiff, sticks or won’t turn
  • A door that won’t latch or a deadbolt that won’t throw
  • Loose or drooping handles and levers
  • A key snapped off inside the lock
  • Locks damaged in a break-in
  • Worn window, letterbox and padlocks

Repair or replace?

We repair a lock when it’s worth repairing. If it’s old or failing enough that a new one costs less than coming back, we’ll say so and agree the price first. New locks can be keyed to the key you already use.

New locks and deadbolts

We fit deadbolts, including on doors that don’t have one yet, plus knob and lever sets. For keypad and app locks, see digital door locks.

Screen and sliding doors

See security screen door locks and sliding door locks.

Rentals in Western Australia

Since 2019, WA rental homes have to meet minimum security standards. In short: the main entry door needs a deadlock, or a key-lockable security screen door that meets Australian Standard AS 5039; other external doors need a deadlock, patio bolt or compliant screen door; and external windows need locks. Check the full rules on the Consumer Protection WA site. We can bring a rental up to standard in one visit.

After a break-in, see break-in repairs: we make the door secure and give you an itemised invoice for your insurer.

Common questions

Straight answers

Often, yes. We repair when it makes sense, and only suggest a new lock when it’s cheaper than another repair visit.

Usually. New locks can be keyed to the key you already use, so you don’t carry another one.

Yes. We supply and fit them, and agree the price with you up front.

Usually not. Should a barrel need drilling, you’ll hear it from us first, then the new one is matched to your current key, free of charge.

Yes. We repair or replace damaged locks and can rekey the rest so any stolen keys stop working.

Yes. We remove the broken piece and cut you a new key on site.

Yes, along with padlocks.

Yes, on most timber doors.

Yes: McGrath, Lion Head, Lockton, Carbine, Lockwood and Yale.

Always. After-hours work costs more, and you’ll know the price before we start.

Usually, yes, and usually it is not the lock — it is the door. If you have to lift or push the door to turn the key, the bolt is binding on the strike plate. Do not keep forcing it; that is how keys snap. See our page on door lock problems.

Yes. We repair where the hardware is worth saving and replace where it is worn or failing enough that a new one is cheaper than coming back. We will tell you which yours is.

No. We do not repair car door locks, and we do not touch ignitions. We can open a locked car without damage and extract a key snapped in a car door, but repairs to car locks are a different trade.
