Need a spare Toyota key?
A spare is the cheapest insurance you can buy for your Toyota. Making one while a key still works is quicker, and costs less, than starting from nothing after the last one goes missing.
We come to the car, cut the blade if it has one, code the chip or smart key to your Toyota, and test it on the doors and ignition before we leave. For most Toyota models it takes roughly 30 minutes after we reach the car. More on spare keys.
Lost every Toyota key?
You don’t need the original, and you don’t need a tow truck. We make a new Toyota key at the car, using the car itself.
Have these ready:
- Photo ID
- Proof you own the car, such as the rego papers
- The VIN if you can find it (it’s on the rego papers, and usually at the base of the windscreen)
Once the new key works, we remove the lost ones from the car’s system so they can’t start the engine. They may still open the doors, so rekey or replace anything they were on. More on car key replacement.

Keys locked inside, or in the boot? We open Toyotas without damage to the paint, the seals or the lock. Car openings never cause damage.

Toyota keys, explained
Toyota changed the chip inside its keys around 2014, moving from what the trade calls the G chip to the H chip. That’s why a key made for an older HiLux won’t start a newer one, even when the blade looks identical. We check the chip type before we cut anything.
Higher-grade Toyotas (HiLux SR5, Prado VX and Kakadu, LandCruiser 300) often use a smart key with push-button start. Work grades like the HiLux Workmate usually have a plain remote-head key, which is quicker to replace.

Can you make a Toyota key without the original?
Yes. We make it at the car from scratch, and remove the lost keys from the car’s system.
How long does a new Toyota key take?
Roughly 30 minutes after we reach the car for most models. We don’t promise arrival times, but we’ll tell you honestly when we can get there.
Do I need to tow my Toyota to a dealer?
No. We drive out to wherever the car is and do everything there.
What do I need to show you?
Photo ID and proof you own the car. The VIN helps too.
Will you damage my Toyota opening it?
No. Car openings never cause damage.
Can you make a key for a HiLux Workmate?
Yes. Work-grade HiLuxes usually have a remote-head key, and we cut and code it at the car.
My LandCruiser 70 has no remote. Can you still do a spare?
Yes. Many 70 Series have a transponder key without a remote, and that’s a straightforward spare.
Do you do smart keys for the Prado and LandCruiser 300?
Yes. We program push-start smart keys for Prado and LandCruiser models at the car.
What don’t you do on cars?
We don’t repair or rekey ignitions, fix car door locks or remove keys stuck in ignitions. We’ll put you onto someone who does.
