Spare key

Need a spare Mazda key?

A spare is the cheapest insurance you can buy for your Mazda. Making one while a key still works is quicker, and costs less, than starting from nothing after the last one goes missing.

We come to the car, cut the blade if it has one, code the chip or smart key to your Mazda, and test it on the doors and ignition before we leave. For most Mazda models it takes roughly 30 minutes after we reach the car. More on spare keys.

All keys lost

Lost every Mazda key?

You don’t need the original, and you don’t need a tow truck. We make a new Mazda key at the car, using the car itself.

Have these ready:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof you own the car, such as the rego papers
  • The VIN if you can find it (it’s on the rego papers, and usually at the base of the windscreen)

Once the new key works, we remove the lost ones from the car’s system so they can’t start the engine. They may still open the doors, so rekey or replace anything they were on. More on car key replacement.

Locked out

Locked out of your Mazda?

Keys locked inside, or in the boot? We open Mazdas without damage to the paint, the seals or the lock. Car openings never cause damage.

If a smart key is sitting inside a locked car, don’t keep pressing buttons on the spare. Call us, tell us where the car is, and we’ll say straight away when we can get there. More on lockouts.

Work vehicles

Utes, vans and fleets

The BT-50 is a common tradie ute in Perth. A spare for each driver saves a lot of downtime.

Good to know

Mazda keys, explained

Older Mazda3 and Mazda6 flip keys have a folding blade, and the hinge is a common weak point. If yours has snapped or won’t stay open, we can replace the whole key rather than tape it together.

Most CX-5, CX-3 and CX-30 models use a smart key that stays in your pocket. The 2011–2020 BT-50 shares a lot with the Ford Ranger of the same years, and uses a flip key.
