Quick answer

Northbridge, Western Australia is in the City of Perth — not the City of Vincent, despite sharing postcode 6003 with Highgate. Nearly 87 per cent of homes are apartments and there are eighteen separate houses in the whole suburb, so almost every residential job here is an apartment door, a letterbox or a lockout. Two-thirds of residents rent and the median age is 31.

Northbridge

A suburb with almost no front doors

Northbridge started as drained swampland, took its shape in the 1890s gold boom — the Brass Monkey was the Great Western Hotel then — and got its character from Greek and Macedonian migration from around the First World War, with a second European wave after the 1950s building the restaurant and café culture that is still the point of the place. Apartment redevelopment did the rest, and since 2018 Perth City Link and Yagan Square have stitched it back to the CBD.

For a locksmith that produces an unusual job list. With two-thirds of residents renting, a third living alone, a median age of 31 and fewer than one car per dwelling, the everyday call is somebody locked out of a flat, often at an hour when they cannot reach an agent. Almost none of it is driveways, gates or backyards, because there are eighteen separate houses in the entire suburb.

The other half of Northbridge is commercial, and it is the strongest case we have anywhere for a 24 hour service. Northbridge has been a declared protected entertainment precinct under the Liquor Control Act since December 2022 — a formal recognition of how many licensed venues sit in a few blocks. Venues, kitchens and late-trading bars need commercial door hardware, restricted keys for staff and cash areas, and someone who will actually come at three in the morning.

Amco Locksmiths covers Northbridge, Western Australia 6003. One licensed locksmith, mobile, no call centre and no shopfront to drive to. Call 08 9444 2089, or send a photo of the lock and we will tell you what it needs before we come out.

Common questions

Straight answers

No — Northbridge is in the City of Perth. Highgate, which shares postcode 6003, is the City of Vincent one. Two different suburbs, two different councils.

Yes. We run a 24 hour emergency service, which is genuinely used here — late lockouts from apartments and venues that cannot lock up at close. After hours costs more and the price is agreed first.

We can open your own apartment door, but we need you or someone in the building to get us to it, and we need photo ID and proof you live there. We do not work on the building’s entry system itself.

We can rekey and fit restricted-profile cylinders so keys cannot be copied at a hardware shop. What we do not do is a full master key system or networked access control, and we will point you to someone who does if that is what you need.

Yes, though it comes up less here than anywhere else we cover — there is under one car per dwelling. If your car is parked in the suburb we can cut and program a key at it.
