A 1950s suburb rebuilt as villa complexes

Innaloo was established in the 1950s and the original stock was single detached timber-frame homes. Almost none of that pattern survives at scale — it has been comprehensively redeveloped into duplexes, villas and townhouse complexes, which is why the census figures look nothing like a 1950s suburb. Anything you read describing Innaloo as predominantly detached low-density housing is out of date.

Villa complexes have their own quirks: shared driveways, common gates, letterbox banks, garage roller doors and rear courtyard gates, some of which belong to the group rather than to you.

The suburb also has a big retail precinct, with Westfield, IKEA and an eighteen-screen cinema. If you lock your keys in the car there, we come to the car and open it without damage.
