What the doors are like in Mount Lawley
Mount Lawley is unusual before you even get to the locks: it is split across three councils — Stirling, Bayswater and Vincent — so the rules about what you may change on a front elevation differ street to street. The Stirling portion sits inside a heritage protection area that restricts demolition of homes built before 1960, and the City of Vincent runs its own separate character policy for its side.
That matters more than it sounds. On a lot of these houses the original mortice or rim lock is part of what is protected, and the answer is to re-pin or repair it rather than cut a modern lockset into a hundred-year-old jarrah door.
