What the doors are like in Inglewood
Inglewood was built in two bursts — roughly 1904 to 1920, then again from 1935 to 1940 — by Gold Estates of Australia, with The Avenues the first subdivision. Most of the housing predates the war, which in lock terms means solid jarrah doors, original mortice and rim locks, and cylinders worn enough that the key has to be jiggled. The suburb has its own character retention guidelines, separate from Mount Lawley’s, so the front of a house is often something owners want kept exactly as it is.
There is one local fact worth knowing before you book anything: lot sizes roughly double as you cross Beaufort Street. West of it, blocks run to about 730 square metres; east of it, about 1,400. A bigger block means a side gate, a rear access way, a shed and often a detached garage, so an east-side rekey is routinely a couple of locks more than a west-side one. We count them before we quote, not after.
Scattered among all that are 1960s walk-up flats — small blocks with no on-site manager, where the jobs are letterbox barrels and a shared entry door that has been stiff for years.

Is Inglewood 6050 or 6052?
6052. It shares the postcode with Bedford, not with Mount Lawley or Menora. Worth getting right when you are searching or giving an address.
We have just bought here. Should we change the locks?
Yes, and it is the most common thing we do in Inglewood. You cannot know how many keys are in circulation. Rekeying re-pins the locks you already have, so nothing is replaced and every old key stops working.
Can you keep the original lock on a character home?
Usually. Most original mortice and rim locks can be re-pinned to a new key, and a worn one can often be serviced back to working. If a lock genuinely cannot be saved we will tell you before we do anything.
Why does my house need two different keys?
Because the front door and the later aluminium security screen are usually different brands and different profiles. Where the screen cylinder can be changed we put both on one key. Where it cannot, we say so rather than sell you something that will not work.
Do you charge more for a bigger block?
Not for the block — for the locks. A house east of Beaufort Street often has a shed, a side gate and a garage door on top of the house itself, so there are simply more cylinders. We count them and agree the price first.
