Most apartments and many townhouses are strata titled, and that sets the first question on any job: is the lock on your lot or on common property? Under Western Australian strata law, the strata company looks after common property, such as the lobby doors, shared gates and driveways, and each owner looks after their own lot. Your unit door, storeroom and balcony slider are often part of your lot, but the strata plan decides, so ask your strata manager if you’re unsure. Some schemes also have by-laws about door hardware. Unit entry doors are mixed, too: some take a standard lock we can rekey, others are part of a building key system. It depends on the building, and we’ll tell you which on the call.

Can I change the lock on my strata unit?
It depends on the building. Some unit doors take a standard lock we can rekey or replace; others are part of a building key system the strata looks after. Tell us the building when you call and we’ll say which, and check your by-laws before changing anything. Anything on common property is the strata company’s call.
I’m locked out of my apartment. What do I need?
Photo ID and something showing you live there, like a lease or a bill. Then we open the door, through the lock wherever we can.
Do you program building fobs?
No. Fobs, intercoms and lobby access systems are access control, which we don’t do. Your strata or building manager arranges those.
Can you fix a balcony sliding door lock?
Yes. We repair or replace sliding door locks and fit patio bolts, and where the lock allows, we key it to your front door.
How much to rekey a unit?
It depends on the number of locks: often just the entry door, plus a storeroom or letterbox. We count them and agree the price before we start.
