Quick answer

The Perth central business district, Western Australia 6000 has two completely different customers in one postcode. On the commercial side it is shopfronts, office suites, staff-turnover rekeys and after-hours lockouts. On the residential side it is apartment doors and letterbox banks, in a suburb where about 80 per cent of homes are flats and two-thirds are rented.

Offices above, apartments beside

The city is commercial towers of every era from the 1960s onward, sitting on a surviving Victorian and Federation street grid, with residential stock that is overwhelmingly 1990s to 2020s conversion and new build along St Georges Terrace, Hay Street and Murray Street. Much of that residential stock is investor-owned or let short term, so turnover between occupants is high and rekeys between tenancies are steady work.

For a business, the calls are predictable: a shopfront cylinder that has worn out, an office suite that needs rekeying because a staff member left, a back door that will not lock at the end of trade, or a break-in repair first thing in the morning. We can rekey and fit restricted-profile cylinders so keys cannot be copied at a hardware shop. What we do not do is a full master key system or networked access control, and in a CBD building that is often exactly what is in place — so we scope it honestly before we quote.

One practical thing nobody else mentions: getting to the door is part of the job in the city. Loading zones, timed bays, basement access and after-hours building entry all take longer than the lock does. Tell us where you are when you call and we will sort that out before we arrive rather than after.

No surprises on the day

  • Price agreed first. You know the cost before any work starts, including after hours.
  • Repair before replace. We only swap a lock when it is genuinely worn out.
  • Drilling never costs you extra. If a barrel has to be drilled we say so before we start, then fit a new one keyed to your existing key at no charge.

Common questions

Straight answers

Yes. We run a 24 hour emergency service, which is what most CBD business callouts are — a door that will not lock at close, or a break-in found early. After hours costs more and the price is agreed first.

No. We do not do master key systems or networked access control. We can rekey your suite and fit restricted-profile cylinders so keys cannot be copied, and we will point you to someone else if a full system is what you need.

Rekey. We re-pin the existing cylinders so their key stops working, usually the same day, without replacing the hardware.

Usually, with a bit of notice. Loading zones and basement access are the slow part of a city job, so tell us where you are when you book and we will plan for it.

No — Northbridge is a separate suburb just north of the railway line, in the City of Perth. It shares postcode 6003 with Highgate, which is in a different council again.
