Where Perth’s rail freight meets its road freight
Kewdale was established in 1949 and its residential streets went up through the 1950s and 60s, while the east became one of Perth’s major industrial estates. The Kewdale Freight Terminal was built in the 1960s to replace the Perth Marshalling Yard and is still the state’s main intermodal rail freight terminal, with rail maintenance, distribution centres and warehousing around it.
The commercial work that produces is specific. Roller shutter and roller door locks, heavy-duty padlocks, gate and yard hardware, and shopfront and office doors that take constant use. The recurring problem on a freight site is not security so much as key control: shift workers, contractors and driver turnover mean keys walk. The honest answer is restricted-profile cylinders that cannot be copied at a hardware shop, plus rekeying when someone leaves. We do not do master key systems, alarms, CCTV or networked access control, and on an industrial estate those get asked for constantly, so we say it early.
The residential half is different again. It is more settled than its neighbours — nearly three in ten own outright — so the work leans towards upgrades and whole-house rekeys rather than constant tenancy churn.

Straight answers
Can I get restricted keys so staff cannot copy them?
Yes. We fit restricted-profile cylinders so keys can only be cut with your authority. That is different from a master key system, which we do not do.
Do you do alarms, CCTV or access control for industrial units?
No. We do locks, doors, roller doors, gates and keys. Alarms, CCTV, intercoms and networked access control are not ours, and we will tell you who to call.
We need a rekey at 6am before the yard opens. Is that possible?
Usually. We run a 24 hour service and freight work rarely fits business hours. Tell us the window when you book and we will tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
Does Kewdale have a passenger train station?
No. The rail here is freight, plus the regional Transwa depot. The nearest passenger stations are elsewhere.
Can you rekey one unit in a multi-tenancy building?
Yes, and that is normally what is wanted — one bay re-pinned, with the other tenants unaffected.
