Seventy-year-old hardware, still on the door
Bedford was gazetted in 1937, named after Governor Frederick Bedford and centred on the corner of Beaufort Street and Grand Promenade. A few 1920s houses still stand on Rosebery and Salisbury Streets, but the phase that defines the suburb came next: the State Housing Commission built its first estate here between Walter Road and Craven Street, and the Grand Promenade shops, completed in May 1952, were the first shops in Perth built with taxpayer money.
That history is the single most useful thing to know before booking a locksmith here, because it dates the hardware.
