State housing, then apartments

Glendalough started as a Catholic Church holding and the residential development began in 1949 under the State Housing Commission, with the suburb gazetted in 1954. The Mitchell Freeway was cut through in 1974, and the original walk-ups and villas have been progressively redeveloped into higher-density apartments since. Worth knowing: in 2007–08 the eastern portion was transferred to the City of Vincent and renamed Mount Hawthorn, so older references to Glendalough may point at land that is no longer in the suburb.

This is a strata suburb more than a house suburb: nine in ten homes are attached. For residents that usually means the unit door, the letterbox and a balcony slider, and a unit can be rekeyed so the old keys stop working.

One practical tip for apartment living: if nobody nearby holds a spare, a key cut in advance and left with someone you trust is worth doing.

We can. A single barrel can normally be changed without touching the rest of the bank.

It depends on how many doors the unit has, which is usually fewer than a house. We confirm and agree the price before starting.

No. Glendalough is in its intake area, but the college itself is not in the suburb.
