A purpose-built city centre, not a suburb that grew. It is a long way from us, and we book it accordingly.

Outer-suburban geography, inner-city housing

Joondalup was designated one of five sub-regional centres in the 1970 Corridor Plan for Perth and most of the land stayed undeveloped until then. It became the city of the north through the late 1980s and early 1990s — a 1990s civic and retail core on Grand Boulevard, ringed by 1990s and 2000s residential, with apartment towers layered onto the boulevard since.

That gives it housing behaviour you would expect much closer in. A large student and young-professional rental population around the university and TAFE means frequent turnover, frequent lockouts, and a lot of apartment and common-property work: lobby doors, basement parking, mailbox banks. The towers are strata-managed, so the buying decision often sits with a strata or building manager rather than the person living there.

The commercial side is real too — a genuine CBD with after-hours office and retail lockouts, restricted-key needs and break-in repairs, plus a hospital and two campuses generating car-park key work at all hours. We should be straight about two things: it is a long way from our base, and Joondalup is one of the most competitive locksmith markets in Perth with several operators based in or beside it. We come, and we do good work, but if you need someone in fifteen minutes you have closer options.

Amco Locksmiths covers Joondalup, Western Australia 6027. One licensed locksmith, mobile, no call centre and no shopfront to drive to. Call 08 9444 2089, or send a photo of the lock and we will tell you what it needs before we come out.

Straight answers

About 23 kilometres from Mount Lawley. We come, but as a booked job. If it is urgent we will say honestly that a local operator will be quicker, because several are based right there.

Yes, subject to the building or provider letting us in and you having photo ID and proof you live there.

The door into your own apartment, yes. The building’s lobby, car park and entry system are strata matters and we do not work on those.

No. The suburb has around 9,000 residents; the City covers many suburbs and around 160,000 people. Worth being precise when you give an address.

Yes — offices and retail on Grand Boulevard, rekeys, restricted-profile cylinders and break-in repairs. Not access control, alarms, CCTV or safes.
