High Wycombe

A 1978 suburb with a 2022 station

High Wycombe was declared a suburb on 2 June 1978, and the name was first used in 1958 by a subdivider, after the Buckinghamshire town where one of the partners was born. The main population sits on the roads off Newburn Road, and the council maps the older part around the Kalamunda Road corridor as pre-1980s stock on 700 to 1,000 square metre lots.

The hardware is a bit younger than in the older suburbs closer in, so many doors are in good enough condition to take a digital or keypad lock. In the older core, aluminium sliding doors and security screens from the 1960s to 80s are worth checking.

Two local things are worth knowing. The station on Dundas Road has a twelve-hundred-bay multi-storey car park and an eight-stand bus interchange, which concentrates a lot of vehicles in one place all day. A spare car key cut beforehand costs less than replacing a lost one. And a sixty-one-hectare transit precinct east of the station is being built now, with enabling works started in 2026. As of today those apartments are planned rather than built.

Local advice

Worth knowing in High Wycombe

Keys locked in a car

Wherever it’s parked, we come to the car and open it without damage.

A digital lock on a newer house

So a houseful of people doesn’t need a key each.

Rekey after a builder hands over

Trades have had those keys for months. Re-pinning makes every one of them useless.

It is worth it. Builders, trades and the sales office have all had keys during construction. Rekeying re-pins the locks you already have so every one of those stops working.

Yes. We come to the car rather than the car coming to us, and we open all makes without damage.

No. It was planned as the Forrestfield–Airport Link, but the station is High Wycombe, on Dundas Road. There is no Forrestfield station.

Not yet. At the last census flats were a tenth of a per cent. A large precinct beside the station is planned and enabling works have started, but the buildings are not there today.
