A town centre suburb with grand homes behind it

Claremont was established in the 1890s around the railway station and was substantially complete by the 1940s. Because the land was subdivided piecemeal the housing is unusually varied, with the grand homes concentrated in the Agett Road and Richardson Avenue precincts. Since 2009 the Claremont Quarter and the apartment building around it have layered modern strata on top.

With that much strata, a fair question is whether you need approval to change your own lock. The short answer is that your own front door is usually yours, but some schemes have rules, and anything on common property definitely goes through the strata company. We will tell you which side of that line you are on rather than just doing the work.

The grand older homes are the counterweight. Sympathetic hardware, rekeying rather than replacing, and improving security without altering how the house presents. Claremont Quarter and the Showground also draw visitors from across Perth, and if you lock your keys in the car, we come to it.

Your own front door is usually yours, but some schemes have rules — it is worth checking. Anything on common property, like the building entry or a shared gate, definitely goes through strata.

We do. A single barrel can normally be changed without touching the rest of the bank.

Yes. Most original locks can be rekeyed, which keeps them on the door. Where something has genuinely failed, we tell you before suggesting a replacement.

Usually yes, by making a key to the lock rather than copying an existing one. If a barrel has to be drilled we say so first and replace it at no charge, keyed to your existing key.

No, it is in Swanbourne. Methodist Ladies’ College and Christ Church Grammar are in Claremont.
