Quick answer

Churchlands, Western Australia 6018 is small — around 1,480 homes — and two-speed. Most of it is post-1980s brick housing where more than half the dwellings have four or more bedrooms, and about a quarter is Churchlands Green, a 300-plus dwelling estate built on the old university campus. Those are two very different kinds of home in one suburb.

Two housing types in one suburb

Churchlands is named after the Roman Catholic Church, which bought the land from the Trigg family in 1891, but the suburb itself is modern — most homes were built after the 1980s. The newest layer is Churchlands Green, built on the former Edith Cowan University campus after it closed in 2008, largely complete by 2015 and holding more than 300 dwellings. There is no longer a university campus here.

More than half the houses have four or more bedrooms, which can mean more external doors, an integrated garage with an internal door, and more people needing keys. The garage-to-house door is easy to forget in a rekey, so count it in.

Churchlands Green is modern strata: we do unit doors and letterbox locks there, while building fobs and common entry go through the strata. Just bought here? A rekey means none of the old keys will work.

Rekey after settlement

Every old key stops working, and nothing on the door changes.

Your unit door, letterbox and storeroom. Building entry is a strata matter.

Straight answers

It can be more than the six to eight of a typical Perth house once the garage internal door, an alfresco slider and a side gate are counted. We count them on site and agree the price first.

Often, yes. We check the thickness and the backset before ordering anything.

No. The campus closed in 2008 and the site became the Churchlands Green estate.

It borders the suburb on the eastern side rather than sitting inside it.

Yes. Churchlands Green is modern strata, so it is unit doors, letterboxes and storerooms — not the building’s entry system, which is a strata matter.
