Quick answer

Nedlands, Western Australia 6009 looks like a settled, affluent suburb and partly is — about 43 per cent own outright. But roughly 26 per cent rent, much of it around the university, so it has a genuine turnover season. Add Perth’s largest hospital campus and you get a job list nothing else nearby matches.

Nedlands takes its name from a land grant to Colonel John Bruce in 1854 — “Ned’s Land”, after his son. Today it is genuinely mixed: student housing near the University of Western Australia, established housing to the south around the golf course, and a commercial spine on Stirling Highway.

The rental cycle is the part most people miss. Student tenancies around UWA turn over on an academic calendar, which means a burst of rekeys and lost-key callouts from November through February rather than evenly across the year.

The hospital campus is the other distinctive thread. Sir Charles Gairdner and Perth Children’s Hospital together run to more than 900 beds and thousands of staff on shift, in large multi-storey car parks. Keys locked in a car at three in the morning after a night shift is a real Nedlands job. And on the older grand homes, the work is the opposite of dramatic: original door furniture that the owner wants kept, rekeyed rather than replaced.

Amco Locksmiths covers Nedlands, Western Australia 6009. One licensed locksmith, mobile, no call centre and no shopfront to drive to. Call 08 9444 2089, or send a photo of the lock and we will tell you what it needs before we come out.

It moved to Nedlands, on the QEII site. It is a common mix-up because of where it used to be.
