Quick answer

Leederville, Western Australia 6007 splits almost three ways: about 39 per cent separate houses, 35 per cent townhouses and 24 per cent apartments, with roughly 43 per cent rented. That means a Federation cottage with its original hardware can sit one street from a 1990s townhouse group, and Oxford Street adds a licensed hospitality strip on top.

Leederville

Two housing eras, one freeway between them

The Leeder Estate was subdivided in 1891, and the suburb’s institutions went up almost immediately — the primary school in 1894, the post office and hotel in 1897, the police station in 1898. Then in 1973 the Mitchell Freeway was cut straight through, halving the suburb, and the corridor has driven medium-density infill ever since. That is why a third of the housing is now townhouses sitting beside cottages from the 1890s.

For locks that means two completely different conversations on adjoining streets. On the cottages: original mortice and rim locks, solid timber doors, and the classic Perth problem where a Gainsborough front door and a later Lockwood security screen leave you carrying two keys. On the townhouses: small strata groups of four to twelve, with a shared driveway gate and a modest letterbox bank, and no on-site manager to call.

Oxford Street is the third Leederville. Licensed venues, cafés and small shops mean staff turnover rekeys, back-of-house doors, roller shutters and the occasional call at the end of trade when a door will not lock and nobody can go home. That is genuine after-hours work rather than a marketing line.

Common questions

Straight answers

No. They are separate suburbs in different councils — Leederville is City of Vincent, West Leederville is Town of Cambridge — with different housing and different high streets. They only share a postcode.

Yes, and it is one of our most common jobs here. Booked by the owner or the property manager, done between tenancies, with the existing locks re-pinned rather than replaced.

Yes. We run a 24 hour emergency service and this is exactly the sort of callout it is for. We will make it secure first and talk about a permanent repair after.

Often. It depends on whether the screen cylinder can be changed to match your front door profile. We check that on site and tell you straight if it cannot be done.

Usually. Most original mortice and rim locks can be re-pinned to a new key, which keeps the door looking right and costs less than replacing it.
