IllustrationLocksmith in West Leederville
The oldest subdivided part of the Town of Cambridge — most of it was built before 1925.
West Leederville, Western Australia 6007 is in the Town of Cambridge, not the City of Vincent like Leederville next door. Roughly half its homes are separate houses and about 39 per cent are rented. Most of the land was subdivided before 1903 and built out before 1925, so the defining job here is a modern deadbolt fitted into a century-old jamb that has since moved.

Renovated rather than replaced
West Leederville is the earliest area of residential subdivision in the whole Town of Cambridge. Development ran from 1891, most blocks were sold before 1903, and the suburb was well built out with houses before 1925 — small weatherboard cottages alongside more substantial brick Federation bungalows. The Kimberley Street precinct is on the Town’s municipal inventory, and the 1990s Hill of Tara estate is the one clearly modern streetscape.
The important word is renovated. These houses were improved rather than knocked down, which means original timber doors and jambs that have been carrying modern hardware for decades. The single most common complaint we hear here is that the deadbolt no longer throws — and nine times out of ten the door has moved, not the lock. That is an adjustment and a service, not a replacement, and we would rather do the cheap fix that works.
Council policy here also pushes rear laneway access to keep the streetscapes intact, so laneway garages and rear entry doors are unusually common. They are worth including in a rekey; people forget them until they are standing at the back of the house with the wrong key.

Straight answers
Which council is West Leederville in?
The Town of Cambridge. Leederville next door is the City of Vincent — different council, different rules, different suburb, despite the shared postcode.
My deadbolt will not lock properly. Is the lock broken?
Usually not. On a house of this age it is nearly always the door or the frame that has moved with the seasons. We adjust and service it first, and only replace the lock if it genuinely has failed.
Can you do the laneway garage as well?
Yes, and we would recommend it. Rear laneway access is common here because council policy encourages it, and the back door is the one most often left on a different key.
Do you work on medical suites?
Yes — rekeys, cylinder changes, door hardware and repairs for consulting rooms. We do not do master key systems or networked access control.
Is Subiaco Oval in West Leederville?
No, and it no longer exists — the site is now the Subi East redevelopment. St John of God Subiaco Hospital is in Subiaco too, though it sits close to the boundary.
