Quick answer

Wembley, Western Australia 6014 is one of the inner western suburbs we cover, and we’ll tell you straight when we can get there. Around 37 per cent of homes are rented, which points to older, smaller unit stock and frequent turnover. Alongside that sit 1930s character homes where the original jarrah doors are worth keeping.

1920s and 30s homes with units replacing some of them

It grew after the 1890s gold rush, then with the tramway from 1927, then again through the 1950s. What has happened since is unit development replacing some of the older housing, which is why a third of homes here are now flats while half are still separate houses. The Wembley Hotel from 1932 is heritage-listed.

Those two housing types need different answers. The 1930s houses on the Cambridge Street side have solid jarrah doors and original hardware, and the right answer is nearly always to rekey or repair rather than cut in something modern. The unit stock is older and smaller — walk-up blocks rather than towers — so the jobs are letterbox barrels, shared entry doors and unit rekeys.

One thing to get right when you are searching: Wembley 6014 and Wembley Downs 6019 are separate suburbs, and a lot of pages that claim to cover Wembley are actually written about Wembley Downs. The golf course is in Wembley Downs. We cover both, but they are not the same place.

Amco Locksmiths covers Wembley, Western Australia 6014. One licensed locksmith, mobile, no call centre and no shopfront to drive to. Call 08 9444 2089, or send a photo of the lock and we will tell you what it needs before we come out.
