Why a sliding door stops locking
Sliding doors run on rollers, and as they wear the door sits lower in its track. The latch then misses the catch on the frame. Sometimes adjusting the catch is enough; sometimes the lock itself is worn out. We check which it is before replacing anything, and if the door needs work rather than the lock, we’ll say so.
Keyed sliding door locks
Many sliding doors only have a flick latch inside. A keyed lock means you can lock the door from outside and it can’t be opened by lifting or forcing the latch. Where the lock takes a standard cylinder, we can key it to your front door.
Patio bolts and extra locks
A patio bolt fitted at the bottom of the door stops it being slid or lifted open. It’s a simple extra for back doors and a common one for rentals.

Rentals in Western Australia
Since 2019, WA rental homes have to meet minimum security standards. In short: the main entry door needs a deadlock, or a key-lockable security screen door that meets Australian Standard AS 5039; other external doors need a deadlock, patio bolt or compliant screen door; and external windows need locks.
