Farmland until the late 1970s
Canning Vale was farmland, with market gardens and dairies, until the late 1970s, and most of the houses went up from the 1980s on. The suburb is split between the City of Canning, west of Nicholson Road, and the City of Gosnells to the east. The north of the suburb is a large industrial area.
