It is an Australian-owned brand, the range stretches from an ordinary timber front door to a narrow aluminium frame and a fire door, and every model keeps a backup key. We supply the lock, fit it, and set the codes up with you before we leave.

Why we fit more McGrath than anything else
Three reasons, and none of them are about looks. The range covers the doors we actually meet in Perth: a standard timber entry door, a slim aluminium frame on a unit, and a fire door in an apartment block all have a McGrath that fits. Which McGrath suits your door
Start with the door, not the features. If it is a standard timber or composite entry door between 35 and 54 mm, the NX1 fits and does everything most households need. If you want to unlock the door or hand out a code while you are at work, step up to the NX6W, which has WiFi built in and saves you buying a gateway.
Narrow aluminium frame? That is the A231. It is the model people wish they had known about after being told a smart lock will not fit their door.
Apartment or a door with a fire tag on the edge? The Stafford is the fire-rated one. Do not fit a non-rated lock to a fire door: it voids the rating and it is the sort of thing a strata inspection picks up.
Whichever you pick, we check the door thickness, the backset and how exposed the door is to weather before we order anything.

Help with your McGrath lock
How do I change the code on a McGrath lock?
On most McGrath locks you enter the master code, then the menu option for users, then add or delete a code. The master code is set when the lock is installed — if it was never changed from the factory one, change it now. If you have lost the master code or the lock was installed by someone else and never handed over properly, we can come and reset it.
The batteries are flat. How do I get in?
You still get in. Every McGrath lock we fit keeps a second way in — on most models that is a key, and on some you can hold a nine volt battery against the contacts on the front to wake the lock up long enough to enter your code. Then change the batteries: Four AA alkaline cells in most models. Not rechargeable, not lithium unless the manual says so.
Where do I find the manual?
The manufacturer publishes them on mcgrathsmartlocks.com.au. If the model number has worn off the lock, send us a photo of it and we will tell you which model you have.
The keypad has stopped responding. What now?
Nine times out of ten it is the batteries, even when the lock has not warned you — cold mornings and cheap cells both shorten their life. Replace them with fresh alkaline cells first. If it still will not respond, use the backup key to get in and call us; we service these rather than automatically replacing them.
Can I get into the app from away from the house?
McGrath models with the app need the lock paired to your phone and, for remote access from away from the house, a gateway plugged in near the door.
Can you fix a McGrath lock you did not install?
Yes. We work on McGrath locks whoever fitted them, including ones bought at a shop and installed by the homeowner. Send us a photo of the lock and tell us what it is doing.

Is McGrath an Australian brand?
Yes, McGrath Smart Locks is Australian-owned and designs its locks for Australian doors. Support and warranty are handled here rather than overseas.
Do I need WiFi for a McGrath lock?
No. Every model works on its own with a fingerprint, PIN, card or tag. WiFi only matters if you want to open the door or change codes while you are away from home. The NX6W has it built in; the others take an optional gateway.
What happens if the batteries die?
You are not locked out. Every McGrath we fit keeps a mechanical key as backup, and the app and the lock both warn you well before the batteries are flat.
Will a McGrath fit my aluminium door?
Usually, with the A231, which is made for narrow stile doors. Send us a photo of the door edge and the lock that is on it now and we will tell you before you commit.
Can I add codes for a cleaner or a tenant?
Yes, and you can set them to work only on certain days or expire on a date. The app also shows you when each code was used.
